Scholarcy and TCC Africa form partnership to support researchers with academic writing workflow

24  January, Nairobi, London-We are excited to announce that Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa) has entered into a partnership with Scholarcy, an AI-powered reading and document analysis tool that converts research papers and other academic texts into interactive summary flashcards. . This collaboration will allow the TCC Africa community and  African early career and published researchers to understand how technology like Scholarcy’s can be used to screen and analyse hundreds of articles more efficiently, making the often daunting task of writing a literature review more manageable. 

Kickstarting this strategic partnership, Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa) was pleased to host an interactive training on Using Scholarcy to systematically screen, assimilate and interpret research papers for the Eider Africa and TCC Africa Academic Community on 5th January 2023. During the training, participants learned to use Scholarcy, a powerful text summarization tool, to condense long-form texts into concise summary flashcards and export these flashcards to generate annotated bibliographies and literature matrices. The training demonstrated how researchers can use Scholarcy to quickly identify the key points and arguments of research papers as well as more easily critically analyze papers to understand how the research builds on or differs from prior studies and effectively interpret large collections of articles.   The trainees were provided with hands-on demonstrations and exercises to help them learn how to use Scholarcy effectively and integrate it into their own reading and literature screening. 

Researchers often struggle to put the papers they read into perspective and understand them. Scholarcy’s text-summarizing technology allows researchers to quickly decide which papers to use in their writing process, which helps them produce higher-quality publications, as stated by Joy Owango, who also notes that “working with Scholarcy goes in line with TCC Africa’s objective, where the Trust provides capacity support in improving researchers’ output and visibility through technology.”
